Japanese Language Classes Auckland 2024

We offer a range of Japanese Language classes for people at all levels. 

If you have previous experience in learning Japanese, please contact us to check if we have spaces available at your level.

 

Overview

  • Classes available at various language levels with native Japanese speakers
  • Small classes – 4-10 students max
  • One two-hour class per week (with additional homework)
  • Evening classes from 6:30 to 8:30 pm (Mon-Thurs)
  • Each term runs for up to 10 weeks, depending on circumstances
  • Fees are non-refundable after payment
  • Students must be over 17 years of age
  • Fees $350 (10 week term) + one-off annual NZJS membership fee of $32
  • Students must buy their own textbooks to use in class (please check in advance)

Classes are held at the Ellen Melville Centre, cnr High Street and Freyberg Place, Auckland CBD.

Term start date: Our terms run concurrent with school terms

Term length: 8-10 weeks

Beginners:

This is suitable for people who have limited experience of learning Japanese. 

Textbook: Japanese for Busy People – Romanized version.

Students must purchase their own textbook (copies available from NZJS, or Mighty Ape stocks this title).

Pre-Intermediate:

For people who have completed the Beginners Part 1-4 class, or have studied basic Japanese for up to one year.

Textbook: Japanese for Busy People 2

Students must purchase their own textbook (Mighty Ape stocks this title).

Intermediate:

For people who have completed the Beginners Part 1-4 and pre-Intermediate classes, or have studied Japanese for two years.

Textbook: Genki 2

Students must purchase their own textbook (Ubiq stocks this title).

Upper Intermediate:

For people who have completed the Intermediate classes, or have studied Japanese for two or more years.

Textbook: Genki 2

Students must purchase their own textbook (Ubiq stocks this title).

For those who have completed three years of Japanese language study.
